We went to eat at 6.30pm on a Sunday evening. There was only 1 starter special left and just the chicken and 2x beef roasts left. Consequently I ordered the brisket burger at £17. The brisket was dry and tasteless and the burger was dry and overcooked. The brioche bun was also dry and the gel lettuce was wilted and tired. My partner had the roast beef which was not rare as advised (medium at best/overcooked at worst) and her roast potatoes were not crispy at all, and the vegetables were tired and dry looking. Our impression was that the food was “the last of the day” and was what was left at the end of the shift. My chicken wing starter was more “effort than reward” as the amount of chicken retrieved was insignificant compared to the effort required to pull it from the bones. Overall the £75 bill left us disappointed as we have eaten at the Black Horse regularly and have always been very impressed with the food. The only highlight of the meal was the “soup of the day” which my partner said was very good. Overall the service was attentive but the food was disappointing. We will return but will eat during the middle of the day going forward and not toward the end of a shift. The only other issue is that we have realised that our £10 booking deposit was not taken off the final bill, but I will be chasing up on this in due course.
