The emphasis at the Black Horse is on quality food, all locally sourced, from high quality suppliers, the meat in fact being delivered from a butcher only a mile down the road. The theme for the food is varied, an excellent selection of traditional English dishes in keeping with the traditional countryside location of the Inn. The restaurant also offers an exciting selection of a la carter dishes and regularly changing specials, to keep the offering fresh and varied. The restaurant menu will really get your tastebuds going, and all of the dishes are lovingly prepared onsite by our talented brigade of trained chefs.

An 18th Century Inn, the Black Horse Inn has been a refuge, providing a welcome rest, food and sustenance, and more importantly watering weary travellers for hundreds of years. The selection of ale and wine is second to none, and testament to many years of experience providing excellent hospitality.

The ale and wine offering at the Black Horse, has a similar ethos to the food. To use locally sourced suppliers, Brewers and wineries to provide a wide and varied selection of products that are able to stand up against more mainstream competitors.

Very good. Comfortable and friendly and real.... Premier Inn can't do that... Hilton can't do that. But you can. Well done and thank you.

Very limited menu for gluten free diet. I asked if a particular dish could be prepared gluten-free which was a chicken supreme. The server came back and advised the chef said yes it could, however, it arrived with no sauce - so basically it was plain pan fried chicken, cooked on the bone, with some very hard vegetables with it. I am surprised that an alternative sauce could not have been made with corn flour instead if wheat flour - it’s not a special ingredient. If that’s not possible I would’ve liked to have been advised that it would’ve come without the sauce & chosen something else. The prawn salad was also very poor - 3 little gem leaves with a sprinkling of Marie rose sauce & a handful of prawns - & no bread - even for those on a normal diet. The calves liver came with very little vegetables & the liver was slightly overdone. The servers were very polite & friendly but not one asked if our food was ok. I’m not one for complaining but realise, in hindsight, I need to speak up at the time.

Menu was a bit limited not like it used to be. The pork belly was amazing but would have liked it with a normal kind of potato and greens rather than a very spicy potato croquette and Pok Choi which was a bit tasteless. Food was nice but we wasn’t wowed like we have always been in the past. We were a bit disappointed but the restaurant itself is so lovely and cosy.
