The roast lamb was very fatty & chewy. 2 of our party had the lamb, the other 4 people were very satisfied with their meals.

We all enjoyed our food. Both my starter the prawns and my main course had interesting flavours. I like the idea of a separate fish board for specials. Our waitress was very cheery and helpful. We were in the conservatory with a birthday party nearby. It was very noisy at times and difficult to hear each other speak. This was my only reservation.

Having received a recommendation and hearing rave reviews, we were really looking forward to our Sunday lunch at the Black Horse. Unfortunatey we were extremely disappointed. The meat was cold - almost raw, the potatoes were hard but not crispy, the veg mix was extremely salty, the broccoli was very hard and cold. We did enjoy the cauliflower cheese - the only tasty part of the meal, which was very pricey for what it was. The sweet we wanted was not available. All in all a great disappointment, therefore we won't be returning.

The food and staff were exceptional however the wait for food was too long. Our table was at 7.15, no starters but main meal arrived just after 9pm. Second time in the dog loft & feel somewhat neglected from main restaurant and service levels.

The service was rather slow but I think that was due to being understaffed and the staff themselves were working like crazy.

Unfortunately some of the people in this booking were served raw meat. The offer for raw meals to be fully replaced was declined by us, opting just for the burgers to be cooked through so we would all eat together - this appeared to be ignored however and instead x2 completely new meals were served c15 minutes later, meaning 2 people ate their meals while 2 had nothing, then vice versa when replaced plates arrived. Not great, especially when we said we didn’t want this as we didn’t want the meal delayed. When I requested the bill I showed my membership card and asked if something extra could also be discounted due to the food situation (preferably this would have been offered without me having to ask). The waitress said nothing, went to another till and I was handed a bill showing only the 20% member discount. Unhappy with this, I spoke with male member of staff and again asked for a discount due to the food situation (quite embarrassing for me to have to ask twice). It transpired he was unaware I was a member and so applied a further discount for me. I cannot explain why the waitress didn’t hear me mention my membership or see the my membership card I was holding but as you can appreciate, this is not ideal. I’ve been visiting a Black Horse for over 20 years, including celebrating numerous family birthdays, and staying over, and I am sure this day’s events were very unusual; previously everything has been brilliant with a great atmosphere and staff who were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for you; sadly this wasn’t the impression we were left after this visit. For information, this was actually for my 50th birthday lunch (obvious from the cake we brought in) and to be honest, the whole situation spoilt my day. The only good I can make of it is that it was MY birthday that was affected and not another family member, as I would have been even more upset had this happened to them. Whilst nothing can be changed for me now, it may that some improvements can be made to prevent others having such a disappointing visit in the future to such a lovely venue.
