Breakfast at Bolney! Lovely way to start the perfect day (mind you, the temperatures did get a bit high afterwards!). Look forward to coming again soon

We came for my 83 year old dad's birthday. The setting is beautiful. We would have liked a hot lunch and the website needs to make it clearer that mains are only on offer in the evening, twice a week as this was disappointing for my dad who eats mainly hot meals. The table we sat at hadn't been wiped clean which was surprising as a lot of effort was spent in advance to make sure staff and guests were well prepared for visits. Service was a bit disorganised as 2 servers asked us for our order after we had given it and a second glass of wine took approx 20 minutes to come after a reminder. Staff seemed to be reacting to guests coming in and forgetting guests who were already waiting. However, the staff were very polite and friendly, especially Ed Giles, who also put gloves on to take a photo for us and brought some lovely fudge for us with a happy birthday message. Also, the chef was able to adapt the classic meze to ensure it was gluten free for myself and it was very tasty. Given the current situation and that the staff were wearing masks on a hot day, the lapses are understandable. Generally, we felt safe regarding measures taken. We would like to come again for the evening menu and for a table on the balcony, although I am not sure how you'd go about this.

Very limited menu. Even more limited range of soft drinks. Then had to ask three times for the bill. Disappointing!

Failed to meet our expectations. I accept that you were under staffed due to furlough. The girl serving us seemed apologetic however I don’t know if the woman with the blonde hair was management but to say to a table your just taking a parasol away on a hot day without explanation and not being apologetic noticing that a larger party came in and it was a birthday party that you appeared to know personally deciding to give it to them was no excuse for the rudeness. When we had waited awhile for an outside table and had an elderly person with us who should be shaded as she has a immunosuppressive disorder that you wouldn’t see from looking at her but as she didn’t want to make a fuss and spoil our day you actually did.
This was disappointing. The setting is magical but if they want to get wine tourism really going they need to up the standard of the food, which was pretty Ho hum. And no attempt was made to explain the wines either which is a real opportunity missed.
