Overall a really disappointing experience. We had booked a table for 2 to celebrate my partners birthday. Staff were pleasant as we had arrived early. Whilst ordering food we were told several of the menu options were unavailable. Which was understandable as it had just been a bank holiday weekend. We ordered tempura cauliflower, beef sliders, garlic prawns, garlic bread, fries and when we asked for the fillet steak. We were told they were sold out but they did have flat iron steak available. We asked if it would be cheaper as it is a cheaper cut of meat and was told no. Ok fine we thought we’d try it, ordered to be cooked medium and with onions. The food arrived and the steak arrived covered in pink peppercorn sauce and overcooked. We ate 2 of the end pieces and sent it back, there was a misunderstanding and the steak was cooked again and brought back to our table? Took it back to the bar, explained it was over cooked and we didn’t want it. Staff started to blame each other for the misunderstanding. We finished the rest of the food which was nice enough. No one came to check on us so I went to settle the bill at the bar. I asked if the steak had been removed and was told no because we had eaten it. We had eaten 2 pieces and I explained it was over cooked and with the wrong sauce “I’m sorry I wasn’t part of that conversation, I wasn’t really sure what happened there but it’s policy that if you have eaten some of it then we have to charge you for it” Wow what a policy. I said it was poor and really not acceptable. The guy behind the bar was trying to be helpful and offered 10% off the £19 steak we didn’t eat. I had had a long day, didn’t have the energy to argue and wanted to leave. I was happy to pay for everything else but the steak. He said he would feed it back to management and I hope they take note. The interior and vibe of the place was nice and it was a shame the service was poor.
