Excellent. Our first visit and we will be back. The waitress welcomed us warmly and suggested we move to a better table on the outside terrace protected from the elements and with heater. Service was 100%

First time back at The Deck since pre Covid. Bloody brilliant breakfast. All boxes ticked. Like the changes . See you again next time in vicinity

I came because I saw the picture of your Sunday roast beef on your Facebook page, imagine my disappointment when you brought my dinner to the table. My wife didn't have a roast parsnip and the meat looked absolutely nothing like your picture

Nice place but not impressed with the food (poor) nor service (slow). SERVICE: Was seated for over 15 minutes without being asked if any drinks were needed. Eventually had to call the waitress over to ask if we could order drinks and also said we were ready to order food. She said she would take drink order first and come back for food order but didn’t. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, missing one drink, no biggie but had to ask where the other drink was so that was another few minutes. So, that’s 30 minutes seated and only just got drinks. Then had to attract attention again to order food so, overall, service was extremely slow. Pleasant enough, no complaints there, but lack of attention to customers and very long wait for drinks to arrive and place food order. Food eventually arrived about an hour after we were seated which, in my opinion, is too long. FOOD: BURGER Three of our party ordered the burger. Looked nice enough, but stacked too high. This may look great in adverts but it makes them impossible to eat with any degree of elegance. That’s a minor gripe, I’m well aware it’s the fashionable thing to do with ‘gourmet’ burgers but it’s not good for the poor customer who has to try and eat it without getting it all over their hands and face. Not really a complaint about The Deck as such, more an observation about following trends and not considering how people are meant to actually eat these things. That aside, and more importantly, the burger itself was poor. Very poor. Overcooked, dry and bland. Borne out by the fact that none of our party ate all the burger meat. Approximately half was taken home for the dogs. At £16 a pop, I think it’s fair to say the burger should be thoroughly enjoyed, not end up a very expensive dog treat. Not impressed at all. CROQUE MONSIEUR Flavour was fine but there was very little texture to the bread, a distinct lack of grilling/toasting/baking/whatever. It was pretty much just a sandwich with a tiny bit of colouring on the bread. Disappointing. THAI COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY BURRITO Dreadful. Sorry but this was the worst of the bunch. Tasted like someone had opened a packet of Ainsley Harriet Thai flavour cous cous and mashed it all up with a couple of bits of chicken. I’m not sure if the owners/chef/cooks have ever tasted Thai food but it should be bursting with flavour and spices. This was not, literally one of the blandest things I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. A crime to give it a tempting, deliciously sounding name but deliver a wrap stuffed with uninspiredly flavoured sludge. Had no choice but to eat, with regret, because I was starving and couldn’t even fill up on the fries for comfort. See below. FRIES The food was advertised as coming with skinny fires. It didn’t, the fries were normal and quite tasteless. Yes, in this day and age, salt is a nasty word but the fries were not tasty and the majority were therefore not eaten. They looked nice and were quite crispy, and I’m sure some people like them but, for me, skinny fries are preferable and/or at least some salt on the fries they served would have made them more enjoyable. CONCLUSION I heard great comments about this place so it’s very disappointing to have this experience. I expected to come and be wowed but the food was a huge let down. The venue is nice, the staff were nice, but I would not recommend it. Furthermore, the usual reply from a restaurant when faced with a review as bad as this is “Why didn’t you complain at the time?”. Well, three things: 1 - The quality of the food overall was not good so there’s not much hope that anything on the menu was cooked well, based on the cross section of food that we tried. In truth, it was a case of cut your losses, put it down to experience, and leave. 2 - It took so long to get our food order there seemed little point in risking another dish and have to wait another 15-30 mins to arrive. 3 - The staff were very pleasant, albeit the service itself was very slow, but they were pleasant and, as above, it felt best just to pay the bill and get out of Dodge, without ruining anyone’s Sunday… p.s. Later that night, I filled up on a delicious Chicken Chilli made by my daughter. Based on the quality of food and prices charged at The Deck, I really should give her at least £25, tell her to keep the change, and pass on her number to you because, in my opinion, your kitchen needs a shake up.
