Would have been excellent if there had been a children’s menu at Christmas. seemed costly for children to have to have an adult meal.

Really disappointing food. Booked expecting steak and settled for tacos. Local to the pub and enjoyed it throughly last year. Chef issues seem to have put this pub in a bad place, I hope it gets back to its well deserved stature soon. Complained about food to the manager/owner, never offered to lower cost on what I thought was a steep bill (£112) for quality/food options.

The Dog at Pentrich is known for quality, service, location and food. A cut above much of the local competition. On this occasion staff were very friendly as ever and tried to accommodate any requests. The food was delivered promptly. It is a pleasant environment, not too crowded or noisy. However, the dining area was really cold, and I noticed staff wearing thick jumpers, so must have been aware of this. I didn't complain, as it had been difficult sorting out low dining seats and drinks (partly through indecision on our part, and the staff seeming to have gaps in their knowledge of what drinks were stocked). When the food arrived it was beautifully cooked, well presented and plentiful, but not very warm. Serving dishes were cast iron but not that hot. My Aunty's 1st visit will probably be her last, because of these issues, she is old, infirm and feels the cold. We will try again, everyone has off days, hopefully the problems were isolated.

A mixed review. We had been pre-warned earlier that day about the party of 23 and the expected delays to service. Staff were very nice and kept us informed. However the party of 23 was extremely noisy and we struggled to hold a conversation. Had we known earlier we may have been able to book elsewhere. We did have to wait a long time for our order to be taken. We had to rush desserts because taxis were booked at 10pm. I was disappointed that there was no Xmas crackers or festive ambience. When I booked there was a lovely 3 course Xmas menu on the website, but on the night the menu was entirely different. Hence the 5/10 star review. The only festive main was the turkey (very meaty!!) but as a vegetarian I only had the choice of a veggie burger or taco. It wasn't what I had hoped for. Other non-veggie members of our party had the turkey. They said it was very tasty but way too meaty (even meat mixed into the veg) and oversized portions - meant for a hungry man not a group of ladies. We left a lot of food. So overall, a disappointing experience especially as it was the one time each year that our staff team all gets together to celebrate a busy year. I would not book a Xmas event with you again.

We were especially impressed by the concern for one in our party with dietary requirements.

The meal was excellent, lovely food, but it was spoilt by the pub being so cold. Such a shame.
