Hi Yesterday afternoon, four of us sat at table 12 and had a lovely carvery with a round of drinks beforehand and desserts to follow. When it came time to pay, the barman summarised the bill just as I mentioned above and we paid by credit card (splitting it into two equal shares with our friends). We went for a walk afterwards and didn't look at the bill until we got home at tea-time, only to be rather mystified by the charges for the drinks as per the attached receipt. Our round of drinks actually comprised two Black Currants with Soda, and two halves of Bass, whereas it seems we were charged for one half and one pint of Bass, a pint of Stella, a Ginger Beer and the two Black Currants and Soda - effectively the Stella, one half of Bass and one Ginger Beer (£4.20 + £1.80 + £2.80 = £8.80) in addition to what we consumed. I'm sure this was just a genuine mistake and in no way wish to spoil what was a lovely meal, but hope that you will be able to correct the mistake. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind Regards - Howard & Julie

My view is that John Thompson’s is a well managed establishment. Eyes are always on the ball. Staff are courteous whilst efficient. Hope it continues. One recommendation though ie the desserts. Could be less sweet. The bread and butter pudding appears to contain the sweetener that is creeping into a lot of desserts. I believe it is a glucose of some sort and it increasingly being used in the better supermarkets. I hate it so because of it I tend to be wary of most desserts. Otherwise JT is on my go to list! I enjoy a good, well run pub.

Thourougly enjoyed our visit
I booked a table for 4 people on the 12/2/2022 at 6pm for my parents 35th wedding anniversary meal. I must admit that we found the meal very disappointing and it felt like it had spoilt our celebrations. I’d like to firstly point out that my father and partner have had sickness and diaorhea since the meal. Secondly myself & my partner had the JT double stack burger, we both found the meal extremely fatty, salty, greasy & the beef was very grizzly. The onion rings were also very over cooked. Thirdly my parents both had the gammon and they both found it extremely chewy and tasteless. Fourthly when it came to paying the bill my father was extremely disappointed with the £6 service charge which was not at all mentioned to any of us once we ordered our food. Overall we all felt very upset however we didn’t want to cause a scene infront of the other customers who were dining. This was the first time my parents had visited the pub and they left feeling very let down as it was a special occasion. I hope after you have read this email you can consider offering us some compensation for our experience dining with yourselves last night.
